Witness statement date:
May 4, 2012

Witness statement name:
Philip, friend, age 16 - stayed with injured friend

Witness statement:
I was right behind Matthieu when he fell past me. I looked down and he wasn't moving at all. His eyes were closed, it was scary to see. Jacques yelled at me to help Matt while he jumped out of the tree and ran up to the house. I tried to help but didn't know what to do really so I sat beside him and tried talking to him. I let him know help was coming.

Case Learning Statement: Never climb trees near powerlines. If tree branches have grown too close to powerlines (3-4 metres) contact your local electric utility to arrange for the tree branches to be trimmed. You may own the electrical equipment, including powerlines, that is on your property. Your local electric utility can confirm what equipment you own and are responsible for. You are required to maintain the equipment you own including having trees trimmed by a trained utility arborist.
